Speakers to Discuss Proposed Almaden Ranch Retail Center at Next AVCA Meeting – UPDATED 2022

map: almaden ranch retail centerThe next Almaden Valley Community Association meeting will focus on the proposed Almaden Ranch Retail Center, and how it affects our egress from the Almaden Valley. [THIS EVENT IS CLOSED]

The first speaker, Gerald De Young, President of Ruth & Going, will describe the plans for the proposed retail center.

The second speaker, Dan Collen, Deputy Director of Infrastructure Development for Santa Clara County Roads & Airports Department, will discuss concerns County Roads has about the project and answer questions.

The third speaker, Manuel Pineda, Acting Deputy Director for San Jose Department of Transportation, will discuss the city’s perspective on the project, impacts on area traffic, options involving new road connections, and answer questions.

The meeting is at the Almaden Community Center on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 7:00-9:00pm.

Almaden Valley Community Association is a nonprofit that was incorporated in May 1961 for the purpose of stimulating interest in civic affairs, circulating of information about our community, and making recommendations for community improvements and protection. AVCA consists of members that live within the 95120 zip code.

Lend a Hand Ministry at Holy Spirit in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

The ministry is focused on reaching out to the elderly and those in our community who need help with simple tasks around the house. Volunteer to help someone with repairing fixtures, cleaning windows, mowing the lawn, or other to do’s and errands.

Almaden Valley Women’s Club Hosting Women’s Safety Seminar – UPDATED 2022

Laugh Yourself Safe is a dynamic, educational, and entertaining program that addresses the safety of women and their families. The seminar is presented by Crime Stop USA.

You will learn how to get to and from your car safely, how to identify red-flag behavior, how criminals pick their victims, how to stop home invasion, and what every woman should know about sexual assault and rape.

“Almaden Valley Women’s Club is dedicated to the personal and professional growth of its members and is grateful to Crime Stop USA for presenting this informative seminar. In a time of increasing crime, it is important to empower people, especially women, to know how handle any situation,” said club President, Sharon Townsend.

Almaden Valley Women’s Club is currently accepting new members. Club members coordinate and participate in the Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival, attend social events and make new friends, and help make a difference in the Almaden Community. Almaden Valley Women’s Club was established in 1965.

Almaden Cares Meeting to Discuss Smart Driving for Teens – UPDATED 2022

image: almaden caresAlmaden Cares meetings are open to all who want to help save the lives of kids on the streets and roads in Almaden Valley.

At the meetings the group provides an update on the most recent accomplishments, discusses plans, and talks about how it can increase community involvement. The meetings are open to all adults and students.

Almaden Cares is a small group of community members who have joined together in response to the many tragic and horrific car collisions involving teenage drivers in Almaden Valley.

The goal of Almaden Cares is to raise the consciousness of pre-teens, teens, and parents regarding the causes of catastrophic accidents involving teen drivers.

The organization wants everyone who gets behind the wheel of a car and everyone who rides as a passenger to make good decisions about their own safety as well as the safety of those around them.

Almaden Cares invites you to join them in this community effort. The next meeting is at the Offices of Alain Pinel, 1071 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose, on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, from 7-8pm. Along with a special guest speaker, the group will discuss recent progress with community partners, its new website, and related issues. Learn the Art and Science of Professional Trail Work in Almaden Quicksilver Park – UPDATED 2022

Work along some of the most beautiful and pristine trails in Santa Clara Valley while learning the art and science of professional trail work. No special skills are required but the work may be moderately strenuous.

This volunteer work day will focus on brushing trails near the Mockingbird entrance of the Almaden Quicksilver Park. Tools, work gloves, and snacks will be provided. Please bring your own water bottle, which we can refill for you.

The mission of the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department is to provide, protect, and preserve regional park lands for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of current and future generations.
