Almaden Community Center Senior Association Thanksgiving feast, Nov. 16, 2016

The Almaden Community Center Senior Association is sponsoring a Thanksgiving feast on Wednesday, Nov. 16 between 2pm and 4pm at the Almaden Community Club. Come join in with family and friends for a sumptuous meal of traditional turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans, bread and dessert. Tickets are $12 for members and $15 for non-members, available at the Almaden Community Center. For more information, call 408-268-1133.

Almaden Country School Thanksgiving feast, Nov. 22, 2016

The Almaden Country School’s annual Thanksgiving feast is a tradition of long standing. On Monday Nov. 21, parents and children will gather in school to prep and cook up a dish to serve at the feast the next day, Nov. 22. No prior cooking experience required. Turkey Trot, Nov. 23, 2016

Castillero Middle School is doing its bit to give back to the community and the school during Thanksgiving. Castillero’s PE department is sponsoring its 2nd Annual Turkey Trot on Wednesday Nov. 23. During the Turkey Trot, students will have a choice of trotting through two events – a competitive mile lap and a non-competitive track lap. Spirit t-shirts will be sold for $10 each and all funds will go towards the Castillero Middle School PE department. Those who sign up will also donate one item of canned food for the Second Harvest Food Bank Thanksgiving donation. For more information, visit http://sjusd.org/castillero.

Run Turkey Run 5K / 10K, Nov. 24, 2016

On Thanksgiving morning, hundreds of Almaden families will gather at Leland High School to participate in the Run Turkey Run 5K / 10K. This annual Thanksgiving event is organized by the Bret Harte Booster Club.

The run/walk event begins at Leland High School at 8.30 am. Both the 5K and 10K sprints will be done on level terrain on the paved trails along the Los Alamitos Creek trail, and will end in a loop at Leland High.

Registration is $15 for kids 12 and under and $20 for adults. You can also purchase Run Turkey Run spirit t-shirts for $15 at the time of packet pick-up and on race morning. Join the New USA Swimming Club in Almaden Valley: Tempo Aquatics – UPDATED 2022

logo: USA SwimmingAlmaden Valley has a new swimming club called Tempo Aquatics that is registered with USA Swimming.

The club offers year-round professional coaching and technique instruction for swimmers 6-18 years of age.

The program helps swimmers improve in many areas of the sport using multiple modes of feedback, physical conditioning, peer review, and competition. It’s lots of fun too!

The club was founded by Head Coach Patti Rothwell. Patti was formerly Head Age Group Coach at Almaden Swim & Racquet Club.

Practices are held at Castillero Middle School in Almaden Valley on Monday through Thursday from 4:15 – 6:00pm.

If you would like to find out if Tempo Aquatics is the right team for you, then go to the pool on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday and try it out!

USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. The organization promotes the culture of swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events, and education.

South Bay Tennis Academy’s Spring 2011 Junior Recreation Tennis Classes in Almaden – UPDATED 2022

logo: South Bay Tennis AcademySouth Bay Tennis Academy is holding junior recreational tennis classes in Almaden Valley. Classes include Mini Tennis (ages 4-7), Rallyball I (ages 8-12), and Rallyball II (ages 8-14).

Using the new quick start format, which uses a games-based approach, players will be able to quickly learn the fundamentals of the game and rally in a fun, social environment.

Mini Tennis offers an introductory program for young athletes. The class focuses on fundamental ball skills, movement, and coordination exercises. You will also learn tennis drills you can do with your child.

Ralleyball I is beginner-friendly while engaging young children to learn basic skills and have fun with their friends. The format includes practice and match time.

Ralleyball II teaches players basic tennis skills necessary to “rally” the ball. Match play time is also used to apply the skills that have been learned to a game setting. (Previous Ralleyball experience is required.)

South Bay Tennis Academy’s classes will be held at Castillero Middle School in Almaden Valley. Classes are every Saturday, April 9, 2011 through June 11, 2011. Mini Tennis is from 9:00am – 9:45am. Ralleyball I is from 10:00am – 11:00am. Ralleyball II is from 11:05am – 12:05pm.

Play Flag Football League in Almaden Valley – Fall 2010 Season – UPDATED 2022

Logo: Play Flag FootballPlay Flag Football league offers 5-on-5 non-contact flag football designed for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 15. Each team has eight to ten children.

The season consists of two practice weeks, one pre-season game, ten regular-season games, and an end of season playoff jamboree where teams play at least two additional games. All league play takes place on Sundays, and games last 45 minutes.

The price is $125 per player. Each player receives a team jersey, shorts, flags, mouthpiece, and league t-shirt. All players receive a participation trophy from the league at the end of the season.

Practice and games are held at Castillero Middle School in Almaden Valley. The Fall 2010 season begins October 10, 2010 and ends December 12, 2010. Register online by September 30, 2010. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

Castillero’s Advanced Drama Presents Bye, Bye Birdie – UPDATED 2022

Bye Bye BirdieCastillero’s Advanced Drama is bringing you Bye, Bye Birdie, the hip, rock-n-roll smash hit! The plot revolves around rock and roll superstar Conrad Birdie and the complications that arise when his agent stages a publicity stunt on The Ed Sullivan Show in which he will kiss one lucky girl from Sweet Apple, Ohio before being drafted into the army. Featured cast members include Brian Clark and Garrett Meyer as Albert, Jamie Landrum and Carly Giacinto as Rosie, and Molly Veregge and Tiani Hernandez as Kim. All performances at Castillero’s Black Box Theatre. Tickets are on sale now for performances on March 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20, 2010. Curtain is at 7:30pm for all dates. The adult only event features live music by FreeFahlen, performances by Castillero’s jazz bands, dancing, dessert, raffle drawing, and silent auction. AVYSL 2010 Spring Break Soccer Camp – UPDATED 2022

UK International Soccer CampAVYSL is holding a UK International Soccer Camp during the 2010 Spring Break week. The coaches, primarily from Great Britain, are selected for their knowledge, coaching ability, and commitment to creating a fun and positive learning environment for players. The result is a soccer camp experience players will remember for a lifetime. All camp sessions are focused on ball skills and fun games to put those skills into practice and develop teamwork.
