TechKnowHow LEGO® 2011 Summer Camps in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

TechKnowHow’s special half-day camps include LEGO Spybots and Master Builders. Each class has five LEGO building projects, one per day.

LEGO Spybots is for kids ages 6-9. The camp is June 20 – June 24, 2011, 2-5pm. Extended care is available from school’s on-site provider.

Master Builders is for kids ages 7-9. The camp is June 27 – July 1, 2011, 2-5pm. Extended care is not available for this session.

TechKnowHow classes enable students to learn technology skills while engaging in fun and interesting projects. Each day the students learn new skills and solidify those learned earlier in the camp. The atmosphere is supportive and fun.

Each class begins with a quick overview of key concepts. Students then begin working on their projects, with the teachers assisting them and answering their questions.

At appropriate stages of each project, students test the performance of what they are creating, while interacting with other campers and teachers.

Movement, Poetry & Art Camp is a cutting edge, well-rounded art camp for your budding artist.

Your child will enjoy literature with music, poetry with movement, and explore the history and influence of local artists in our everyday lives. The camp is for boys and girls ages 7-14.

Movement, Poetry & Art Camp is at the Almaden Community Center, Monday – Friday, April 11, 2011 through Friday, April 15, 2011 from 8:30am to 3:30pm. The price is $245 per child.

Camp B-L-D for Kids During the 2011 Spring Break Week in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

photo: Camp B-L-DKids will take a trip around the Almaden Teaching Kitchen and learn how to make meals and snacks for each part of the day.

Camp B-L-D (breakfast, lunch, dinner) fosters self-confidence, allows kids to make new friends, and enjoy tasty meals all camp long.

Cooking supplies will be provided. Children are encouraged to bring an apron and drink to camp each day. The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-10.

Camp B-L-D is at the Almaden Community Center, Monday – Friday, April 11, 2011 through April 15, 2011, from 8:30am to 12:30pm. The price is $209 per child.

Lord of the Light Art Studio & Gallery teaches students the fundamentals of fine art. The studio has a unique curriculum that is designed to bring out and develop a student’s imagination and creativity. The program will help your child experience new freedom and give your child a new love for art.

Mad Science camps help spark the imagination and curiosity of children by providing them with fun, entertaining, and educational activities.

The camps instill a clearer understanding of what science is really about and how it affects the world around them.

The following Mad Science summer camps are available at the Almaden Community Center. All camps have half day (9am to 12pm) and full day (9am to 3pm) options, with the exception of the NASA camp, which is half day only.

San Jose Parks Recreation & Neighborhood Services has released its City Wide Activity Guide for Spring 2011.

The Activity Guide includes all of the programs and classes planned for the Almaden Community Center in Spring 2011.

Almaden Valley residents have a variety of activities from which to choose. There’s something for everyone – from toddlers to seniors.

Choose from arts and crafts, camps, dance, early childhood recreation, education and enrichment, health and fitness, music, sports leagues and drop-ins, cooking, specialty programs, senior programs and events, and family events.

Registration for Spring 2011 activities begins on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10am. You can register online.

This special event features stories, songs, and essential information about fire prevention and fire safety. And an opportunity for the kids to meet Smokey the Bear! This will be a fun and educational event for kids of all ages.

Hanley’s Chess Academy Holding Chess Tournament for Kids in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

Hanley’s Chess Academy is holding a Scholastic Chess Tournament for Kids in Almaden Valley.

The tournament is a Quad format. Players are listed from highest to lowest based on rating. The top 4 are placed in Quad 1, the next highest 4 in Quad 2, and so on.

Participants play one game against each player in their Quad for a total of 3 games each. The time control for each game is G/40 with a 5 second delay. Trophies are awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in each quad.

The tournament is at Round Table Pizza (1159 Redmond Ave) in Almaden Valley on February 12, 2011 from 5pm to 9pm. The price to participate in this tournament is $28 for each player, which includes tournament play and a kid’s pizza meal (pizza and drink).

All participants must also be members of United States Chess Federation (USCF). The price for this membership is $25 annually.

The USCF membership entitles your child to play in any tournament he/she wishes. Each child will earn an official rating and receive the bi-monthly USCF magazine, which includes articles, pictures, and stories about youth chess tournaments throughout the USA.

Simonds Elementary’s 2011 Annual Science Fair at Almaden Community Center – UPDATED 2022

Simonds Elementary School is hosting its 8th Annual / 2011 Science Fair. The fair provides an opportunity for all students to have fun with science, and to learn about the principles of logic and scientific deduction.

The fair is open to other students, parents, friends, family, and the general public. Come see the students present their exhibits, and see what they’ve learned in their various science classes. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded for grades 2-5.

Students in kindergarten through second grade will display their projects at the Simonds Cafeteria on February 8, 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Students in grades 3-5 will present their projects at the Almaden Community Center on February 9, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:00pm. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

Canines of the County Talk Coming to Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

If you’re a canine enthusiast, then this talk is for you. Learn about Santa Clara County’s wild canines, such as coyotes and foxes, in Canines of the County. See photos of canines in the wild and learn about their behavior.

This talk is presented by the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority. The Open Space Authority protects sensitive lands, preserves natural communities, and manages open space in ways that promote agriculture and compatible recreation.

Canines of the County is at the Almaden Library, in the Program Room, on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The event is free. No registration required. Just show up and enjoy. Fun for all ages. [EVENT IS CLOSED]
