See what classes are being offered in Arts & Crafts, Dance, Education & Enrichment, Health & Fitness, and Sports. There are so many great options to pick from, for preschoolers through Active Adults 50+. Spring 2024 season and 2024 summer camp registration will open Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10am. Early registration for scholarship eligible participants will be in person on Wednesday Feb. 14 at 10am. Registration for Active Adult members will begin online and in person on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 10am.

See what classes are being offered in Arts & Crafts, Dance, Sports, and more. There are new LEGO® workshops and even a Robotics with LEGO Spike winter camp! There are so many great options to pick from, for preschoolers through Active Adults 50+. Most activities start in January, but the guide also has information about holiday events, so take a look and register now!

In addition to holiday events and winter classes, the Almaden Community Center Winter 2024 Activity Guide has registration information for the Valentine’s Day Painting Party (kids 3-5) and Camp San Jose Presidents Break Camp at Almaden Community Center that runs Tuesday-Friday 2/30-2/23. There’s also information about Citywide Fitness programs for ages 14-55+, which include drop-in volleyball, basketball, badminton, and table tennis.

Diwali, the Festival of LightsAlmaden Senior Association Diwali

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is one of India’s most important and colorful celebrations.

On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the Almaden Senior Association will host their Diwali Celebration from 4 – 7pm at the Almaden Community Center.

Festivities will feature beautiful decorations, a flavorful multi-course Indian dinner, Bollywood dances, and drawings for gift baskets and gift cards.

Ticket sales begin September 27 and are available MWF from 8 – 10am in the Almaden Community Center lobby. Tickets are $22 ACC members and family, $25 non-members. A table can be reserved with a purchase of 8 tickets.

About the Almaden Senior Association

The Almaden Senior Association is an all-volunteer organization of Active Adults (50+) which initiates, supports and promotes programs and activities for the active adult population at the City-operated Almaden Community Center. Almaden Community Center Spring 2023 Activity GuideThe Almaden Community Center 2023 Spring Activity Guide is now available! General registration for community center classes, spring break camp and a wide variety of summer camps opens Feb. 25 at 10am. You can register in person at Almaden Community Center or online at www.sjregistration.com.

Dozens of week-long full- and half-day summer camps will take place at the Almaden Community Center or at neighboring parks. Camp instructors are from Mad Science of the Bay, Play-Well TEKnologies, Dance Arts Academy, Young Rembrandts, Futsal Kings, Skyhawks Sports Academy, Engineering for Kids, and more.

Early registration for Active Adults 50+ begins online and in person on Wednesday Feb. 22 at 10am. From creative crafts to pickleball, there’s something for everyone!

Seniors over 50 are welcome to enjoy activities and games with prizes. Those in need can also access resources for seniors.

Senior SafariSenior Safari at the Happy Hollow Park and Zoo

Happy Hollow Park and Zoo’s Senior Safari is back this year. So if you’d like to get some love from animals, head over to the Happy Hollow Park and Zoo for a little petting time. Seniors 50+ can enjoy free early entry into the park and zoo (before 10:00 am) to meet and greet animals and other activities! The first of six free events is this week, May 26. Additional dates are June 23, July 28, August 25, September 22 and October 27.

The Almaden Community Center Winter 2019 activities and classes are open for registration. Here are some of the exciting new offerings for the season.

Art with the Masters – Participants will learn about some of the great masters in art and study their paintings.

Painting Party with Ms. Marla – Learn to paint from scratch. All painting material including canvas, paints and brushes will be provided.

Apprentice Electrical Engineering: Electrified – Participants use Snap Circuits and other engineering design process tools to design, create and test various electronic circuits. Objects designed include a flashlight and a magnetic levitation vehicle!

Electronic Game Design: Racing Games – Participants create their own racing games complete with cars, race tracks and the full racing environment. Fun stuff for the young speedsters.

Junior Civil Engineering: Fun Foundation – In this fun class, children understand the engineering concepts behind big infrastructure projects like skyscrapers and bridges.

Junior Wedo Lego Robotics 2.0: Robots in Motion – Children learn to build robots using Lego Wedo.

Little Sports Medicine – In Little Sports Medicine, your child can learn about common sports related injuries and how real doctors do their diagnoses.

Minecraft YouTubers: Let’s Play – This is an exciting one for the diehard young Minecrafters. Participants create and upload Minecraft videos for YouTube, and in the process also learn about Internet safety.

New Year, New You – As we move towards 2019, find your inspiration through this motivational course. Goals, dreams, ideas and joy. Explore your inner zen.

December 3, 2016: Holiday Brunch for Seniors

The celebrations begin with the Annual Holiday Brunch for Almaden Community Center senior members on Saturday, December 3. This festive buffet will serve egg frittata, grilled ham slices, potatoes O’Brien, breakfast pastry, mimosas and beverages. Tickets: $8 for members and $10 for non-members; can be purchased on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:40 am to 10:00 am at the Almaden Community Center. December 6, 2016: Thunder Valley Casino Fun Trip

On December 6, the Senior Association is taking its members on a fun trip to the Thunder Valley Casino. The trip costs only $35 per person. It includes a $15 slot play or table play card and a $5 food players card. To join in, please arrive at the Almaden Community Center at 6445 Camden Avenue, San Jose, at 7:30 am. December 10, 2016: Breakfast with Santa

The Community Center’s littlest patrons have a special treat coming up for them on December 10: The Annual Breakfast with Santa event. The morning begins with a breakfast full of special treats and a guided session of holiday arts and crafts. After that, Santa will make a special appearance giving the tiny tots an opportunity to sit on his lap for that wonderful photo moment. To participate in this event, your child must be registered, so remember to do so and make sure you carry your camera. If you have a child under one and half years, please call 408-268-1133 to ensure your child has a seat on the day of event. Time: Between 9:30 am and 12:00 pm.

Almaden Community Center Senior Association Thanksgiving feast, Nov. 16, 2016

The Almaden Community Center Senior Association is sponsoring a Thanksgiving feast on Wednesday, Nov. 16 between 2pm and 4pm at the Almaden Community Club. Come join in with family and friends for a sumptuous meal of traditional turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans, bread and dessert. Almaden Country School Thanksgiving feast, Nov. 22, 2016

The Almaden Country School’s annual Thanksgiving feast is a tradition of long standing. On Monday Nov. 21, parents and children will gather in school to prep and cook up a dish to serve at the feast the next day, Nov. 22. No prior cooking experience required. Turkey Trot, Nov. 23, 2016

Castillero Middle School is doing its bit to give back to the community and the school during Thanksgiving. Castillero’s PE department is sponsoring its 2nd Annual Turkey Trot on Wednesday Nov. 23. During the Turkey Trot, students will have a choice of trotting through two events – a competitive mile lap and a non-competitive track lap. Spirit t-shirts will be sold for $10 each and all funds will go towards the Castillero Middle School PE department. Those who sign up will also donate one item of canned food for the Second Harvest Food Bank Thanksgiving donation. For more information, visit http://sjusd.org/castillero.

Run Turkey Run 5K / 10K, Nov. 24, 2016

On Thanksgiving morning, hundreds of Almaden families will gather at Leland High School to participate in the Run Turkey Run 5K / 10K. This annual Thanksgiving event is organized by the Bret Harte Booster Club.

The run/walk event begins at Leland High School at 8.30 am. Both the 5K and 10K sprints will be done on level terrain on the paved trails along the Los Alamitos Creek trail, and will end in a loop at Leland High.

Registration is $15 for kids 12 and under and $20 for adults. You can also purchase Run Turkey Run spirit t-shirts for $15 at the time of packet pick-up and on race morning.
