Migrating Newts in Almaden Quicksilver ParkThe Almaden Quicksilver Park will be hosting an informational hike on December 15, 2012 from 9am to 12pm. Come and learn about one of the most interesting natural phenomena to occur in the area on an easy 2.6 mile hike through the park.

Guides will explain how thousands of California newts will migrate to their hereditary breeding ponds, facing distance and danger. This migration takes place annually from November to March.

Learn more about the exciting pastime known as geocaching! The Almaden Quicksilver Park will be hosting a free, docent-guided geocaching adventure on Saturday, October 20 from 8:45am to 12pm.

Participants will be provided with a GPS tracking device and will be instructed to find 6 to 7 “caches” hidden within the park. It’s a modern-day treasure hunt! Bring sun protection, water, snacks and sturdy hiking shoes and meet at the Wood Road parking lot.

Introduction to Geocaching in Almaden Quicksilver County Park – UPDATED 2022

Join Docent Sam Drake on a beginner’s geocaching adventure in Almaden Quicksilver County Park. You will find 6-7 hidden caches in the park.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game where you use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches,” with other participants in the activity. GPS units provided.

A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook where the geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it.

Meet at the Wood Road Park Entrance with sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection, water, and snacks. The event is Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 8:45am to 12:00pm. You can register online. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

Healthy Tails Dog Hike

Almaden Valley neighbors, leash up your dogs and join the Healthy “Tails” dog hike at Quicksilver Park on Saturday, November 5 from 9am to 11am. A guide from California K9 Solutions will be teaching participants how to enjoy outdoor activities as they and their dogs hike the 2.5 mile Wood Road Trail. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet long, and registration is required. Call (408) 355-2240 or register online at Santa Clara County Parks.
