Almaden Valley youth opportunitiesBrain Maps – A Stimulating Workshop for Kids

Almaden children, ages 7 and up, will learn all about brain-mapping in this creative and engaging workshop at the Almaden Library on Tuesday January 31 at 4:00pm. This play and learn event will start off with some fun quizzes about the brain, and then kids will learn about personality and the different lobes of the brain. Build a Bot at Leland High

The annual Build a Lego Robot Day at Leland High is coming up on Saturday January 28. Conducted by the school’s FRC (FIRST Robotics competition) Team 604, also known as Quixilver, this workshop introduces students ages 6-14 to the basics of programming and designing robots. The workshop will be held in two sessions from 10-11am and 11:30am-12:30pm.

Earlier this academic year, the Leland Robotics team won the Chezy Champs Robotics competition at Bellarmine College Preparatory in an alliance with Spartan Robotics, Citrus Circuits and Presentation Invasion. TechKnowHow’s special half-day camps include “Simple Bots: Remote-Controlled LEGO® Projects” and “Master Builders: Advanced LEGO® Building and Game Design.” Each class has five LEGO building projects, one per day. The camp offers entirely new projects and activities each year.

The camps explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture through fun-filled projects that:

  • Develop and enhance problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Expose children to concepts and vocabulary of Engineering, Architecture, and Physics
  • Provide an opportunity to have a great time with a terrific and versatile building system

TechKnowHow LEGO® 2011 Summer Camps in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

TechKnowHow’s special half-day camps include LEGO Spybots and Master Builders. Each class has five LEGO building projects, one per day.

LEGO Spybots is for kids ages 6-9. The camp is June 20 – June 24, 2011, 2-5pm. Extended care is available from school’s on-site provider.

Master Builders is for kids ages 7-9. The camp is June 27 – July 1, 2011, 2-5pm. Extended care is not available for this session.

TechKnowHow classes enable students to learn technology skills while engaging in fun and interesting projects. Each day the students learn new skills and solidify those learned earlier in the camp. The atmosphere is supportive and fun.

Each class begins with a quick overview of key concepts. Students then begin working on their projects, with the teachers assisting them and answering their questions.

At appropriate stages of each project, students test the performance of what they are creating, while interacting with other campers and teachers.

TechKnowHow LEGO® Summer Camps at Holy Spirit School in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

There are three different one-week camps to choose from: Spybots (ages 6-9), Pro Builders (ages 7-9), and Rev-Up (ages 6-9). Each class will involve five building projects, one each day of the week. Students take home a CD with building instructions and a camp t-shirt. Read the class descriptions.

Classes are at Holy Spirit School in Almaden Valley on June 21-25, 2010; June 28-July 2, 2010; and July 6-9, 2010. These are special half-day classes from 2-5pm daily. (No extended care available.) Price is $200 per camper for the week. [EVENT IS CLOSED]
