Register Now for a Quicksilver History Hike

Join an Almaden Quicksilver Park Interpreter for a Quicksilver History Hike in the Almaden Hills to discover how our changing values have impacted the landscape, and a once bustling mining enterprise became a County Park. This moderate 3-4 mile hike leaves from the Wood Road parking lot of Almaden Quicksilver County Park. This hike will cover history content that is geared towards an adult audience. Best for ages 10+

Limited space! Please only sign up a max of 4-5 people. If you know more people would like to join, please share the registration form link. Reservations are not required but they are strongly recommended as parking is limited at the trailhead.

Although dogs are allowed within the park, for the comfort and safety of the group, they are discouraged from accompanying you on the hike (with the exception of service animals). Further questions? Call 408-918-7770 or email desiree.humphers@prk.sccgov.org

Quicksilver History Hikes are offered monthly, usually on the 4th Saturday or Sunday of the month.

Almaden Community Center Summer 2024 Activity Guide

The Almaden Community Center Summer 2024 Activity Guide is now available, offering exciting classes, workshops, and dozens of summer camps! The guide has so many great options to choose from, for preschoolers through Active Adults 50+.

Summer 2024 season registration will open Saturday, May 4 at 10am. Early registration for scholarship eligible participants will be in person on Wednesday April 24 at 10am. Registration for Active Adult members will begin online and in person on Wednesday, May 1 at 10am. Spring registration and summer camp registration are currently open.

Leland High School Drama Production of The Laramie Project

Tickets are on sale now for the Leland High School Drama production of The Laramie Project, a dramatic play written by Moisés Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project.

The Laramie Project is a true story about a hate crime murder in 1998 involving Matthew Shepard. The play consists of multiple interviews of people in the town who knew both parties. It is an educational performance for mature audiences about the injustice that people of the LGBTQ+ community face due to their differences.

Almaden Cabana Club Junior Lifeguard Program

Registration is now open for the Almaden Cabana Club Junior Lifeguard Program! There will be two sessions this summer, which are open to all youth 11-14 years old. Session 1 is July 24 – July 28, and Session 2 is July 31 – August 4. Both sessions are from 9am-12pm Monday through Friday. Participants will learn water rescue skills, first-aid techniques, leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. Go to www.almadencabana.com/jlp for more information and to register.

Performance Night at Leland Speech and Debate

Leland Speech and Debate It’s the most awaited end of the academic year event for Leland High School’s Speech and Debate team – the annual Performance Night – where the team, after performing at competitions – and winning accolades – near and far, perform on their home turf before their friends, families and neighbors.

Leland’s Speech and Debate team needs no introduction in Almaden Valley, yet I will say it here. With over 200 members, and steered by 20 coaches, it is one of the most competitive and high achieving speech and debate teams in the United States. Currently ranked sixth in the nation and first in California by the National Speech and Debate Association, in the last five years this team has produced multiple State Champions and Nationals finalists.

On Friday, May 13, 2020, the cream of the team will be performing in various kinds of speeches and enactments, under their Dramatic Interpretation Category.

Tickets are available at the door. This is also the biggest annual fundraiser for the program. Please join in to support Leland Speech and Debate.

Leland High School Speech Workshops

Leland High School Speech Workshops Leland High School will be hosting two speech workshops for elementary school students this summer. The workshops will be led by coaches from the nationally ranked Leland High School Speech and Debate team, under the guidance of Gay Brasher, celebrated public speaking coach and Leland teacher.

The workshops are for students entering second grade through sixth grade and will be conducted in two sessions. During the workshops, students will be trained to write, practice and present short speeches. They will get a chance to develop key public speaking skills that will remain with them for a lifetime. The details are as follows:

Session 1: June 26, 27, 28
For students entering 2nd – 4th grades
Cost: $160
Location: Leland High School, Room J-2
Time: 9:00 am to 11:00 am

Session 2: July 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
For students entering 4th – 6th grades
Cost: $390

Almaden Swim & Racquet Club Courses

The Almaden Swim & Racquet Club (ASRC) is hosting a series of American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard training courses between March and May 2019. The courses will be provided by Norcal Lifeguard Training under the guidance of instructor Tami Moore.

The dates are as follows:

Session 1: March 9 – 10
Session 2: April 13 – 14
Session 3: May 18 – 19.

The costs are $125 for a one-day recertification course and $200 for a two-day new certification course. The training is open to all participants 15 years or older.

NorCal Lifeguard Training is an authorized American Red Cross provider. This Lifeguard certification also includes First Aid, CPR and AED certification, and is valid for two years.

The Almaden Community Center Winter 2019 activities and classes are open for registration. Here are some of the exciting new offerings for the season.

Art with the Masters – Participants will learn about some of the great masters in art and study their paintings.

Painting Party with Ms. Marla – Learn to paint from scratch. All painting material including canvas, paints and brushes will be provided.

Apprentice Electrical Engineering: Electrified – Participants use Snap Circuits and other engineering design process tools to design, create and test various electronic circuits. Objects designed include a flashlight and a magnetic levitation vehicle!

Electronic Game Design: Racing Games – Participants create their own racing games complete with cars, race tracks and the full racing environment. Fun stuff for the young speedsters.

Junior Civil Engineering: Fun Foundation – In this fun class, children understand the engineering concepts behind big infrastructure projects like skyscrapers and bridges.

Junior Wedo Lego Robotics 2.0: Robots in Motion – Children learn to build robots using Lego Wedo.

Little Sports Medicine – In Little Sports Medicine, your child can learn about common sports related injuries and how real doctors do their diagnoses.

Minecraft YouTubers: Let’s Play – This is an exciting one for the diehard young Minecrafters. Participants create and upload Minecraft videos for YouTube, and in the process also learn about Internet safety.

New Year, New You – As we move towards 2019, find your inspiration through this motivational course. Goals, dreams, ideas and joy. Explore your inner zen.
