Children’s Discovery Museum’s Laboratory Stories in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

logo: Children's Discovery Museum of San JoseChildren’s Discovery Museum will create a laboratory for young scientists to investigate chemical reactions with dry ice as they solve a dilemma presented within a folktale.

Laboratory Stories stimulates kids to explore the wonders of science. The program integrates language arts and science with interactive experiments that:

  • Develop experimental design and problem-solving skills
  • Promote essentials of observation
  • Spark student curiosity

This event will be held at the Almaden Branch Library inside the Program Room on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 3:30-5:00pm. [THIS EVENT IS CLOSED] The program is for children ages 5-12.

Having the Children’s Discovery Museum’s Laboratory Stories program in Almaden Valley was made possible through the generous contributions of the Friends of the Almaden Branch Library.

Almaden Valley Women’s Club Offering College Scholarships to Graduating Seniors – UPDATED 2022

logo: Almaden Valley Women's ClubAlmaden Valley Women’s Club (AVWC) is once again offering college scholarships to graduating seniors who live in Almaden Valley.

These scholarships, funded through the Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival, promote student service and academic achievement, and recognize high school students for outstanding leadership in service within our community.

AVWC has several scholarships to award to deserving students this year. Individual scholarships range from $500 – $2500.

Winners will be selected based on outstanding volunteer experience, academic performance, school activities, letters of recommendation, and personal essay.

Application and supporting documents must be returned by April 9, 2011. Check the Almaden Valley Women’s Club website for pre-requisites and the application packet. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

Internet Safety Seminar for Parents in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

logo: Common Sense MediaCommon Sense Media is providing an Internet Safety Seminar in Almaden Valley. This seminar will address issues such as cyberbullying, texting, and social networking. The event is for parents only.

The Internet is social for preteens and teens. Kids at this age still need parental guidance on how to conduct themselves online. You will learn how to help your child become responsible digital citizens, which will ultimately keep them safe online.

Common Sense Media is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that provides trustworthy information and tools, as well as an independent forum, so that families have a choice and a voice about the media they consume.

Registration Now Open for 10th Annual / 2011 Math Enrichment Summer Program at Leland High School – UPDATED 2022

logo: Math Enrichment ProgramRegistration is now open for the 10th Annual / 2011 Math Enrichment Summer Program at Leland High School in Almaden Valley.

Math Enrichment is an independent Summer program for students going into Kindergarten through 11th Grade.

The program provides a superior Summer educational experience in a diverse, family-oriented environment, and meets all the academic, social, creative, emotional, and physical needs of the individual student. The academic curriculum is focused on reading, writing, and mathematics.

Math Enrichment’s staff is comprised of California Credentialed teachers from various school districts throughout the Santa Clara County, and is fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Math Enrichment is at Leland High School in Almaden Valley. Classes begin June 13, 2011 and end July 22, 2011. Class is held Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm. Before and after school care is provided. [EVENT IS CLOSED]
