Almaden Valley Community Events in July

Join the Almaden Valley community this July in attending Music in the Park on Thursday nights 6:30-8:30 PM at Greystone Park (Mt. Carmel @ Camden Ave.). This past week Old School Rock & Roll headlined. The upcoming acts for the month include The Houserockers, Free Fahlen, and Sage, each performing their own respective genres of music each upcoming Thursday this month. This event is open to all Almaden Valley residents and is a great way to relax and listen to music with the Almaden Valley community.

This past weekend the New Almaden community hosted one of its weekly Saturday events “What’s In a Ranger’s Truck?” At the Almaden Quicksilver County Park, all attendees were welcome to view the inside of a Park Ranger’s truck and learn about the various tools used by rangers on the job, whether used for helping aid others in an emergency or for search and rescue purposes.

Learn about the exciting pastime known as geocaching! The Almaden Quicksilver Park will be hosting a free, docent-guided geocaching adventure on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 8:45am to 12pm.

Participants will be provided with a GPS tracking device and will be instructed to find 6 to 7 “caches” hidden within the park. It’s a modern-day treasure hunt! Bring sun protection, water, snacks and sturdy hiking shoes and meet at the Wood Road parking lot.

Migrating Newts in Almaden Quicksilver Park The Almaden Quicksilver Park will be hosting an informational hike on December 15, 2012 from 9am to 12pm. Come and learn about one of the most interesting natural phenomena to occur in the area on an easy 2.6 mile hike through the park.

Guides will explain how thousands of California newts will migrate to their hereditary breeding ponds, facing distance and danger. This migration takes place annually from November to March.

2013 Almaden Haciendas Hills Run in Almaden Quicksilver Park

Enjoy the scenery of Almaden Quicksilver Park on a run on January 5, 2013. Races will start at 8:30 and 8:45am. The courses will be hilly and will wind through the park. Detailed maps can be found at Troy’s California Trail Runs.

The following options will be available to runners (listed with their respective registration prices): 5K is $45, 10K is $50, and 13.1 miles is $55.

Troy's California Trail Runs - Almaden Hills Enjoy the scenery of Almaden Quicksilver Park on a run on November 3, 2012 at 8am. Four fully stocked aid stations will be available during the run. Runners will also be given food at the end of the race – they are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. The courses will be hilly with approximately 40% single track and 60% dirt roads.

Almaden Quicksilver Park Healthy Trails Five-Mile Hike

New Almaden Quicksilver Park Map Get yourself in shape and join the staff at Almaden Quicksilver Park for a challenging Healthy Trails Hike on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 10am to 1:30pm.

This hike will be rigorous. It will cover 5.2 miles and wind through the Deep Gulch, English Camp, Mine Hill, and Castillero Trails.

Almaden Quicksilver Park will be hosting a history tour by van on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 9am to 1:30pm. Adults and children (6 years and older, must weigh at least 60 pounds) alike will love the opportunity to step back in time and discover the area’s rich mining history on this tour.

Join Docent Sam Drake on a beginner’s geocaching adventure in Almaden Quicksilver County Park. You will find 6-7 hidden caches in the park.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game where you use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches,” with other participants in the activity. GPS units provided.

A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook where the geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it.

Meet at the Wood Road Park Entrance with sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection, water, and snacks. The event is Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 8:45am to 12:00pm. You can register online. [EVENT IS CLOSED]
