KQED QUEST Piece on Mount Umunhum: Return to the Summit

From the Fun File: KQED QUEST aired a television piece entitled Mount Umunhum: Return to the Summit. QUEST treks to the peak of Mt. Umunhum rising steeply above Almaden Valley. During the Cold War the Air Force installed a sprawling radar station at the top of this mountain. For over 50 years the summit has been off limits to the public.

Now the site is being cleaned up and will eventually be opened again as open space. KQED’s piece has some great scenery from the mountain top and interesting tidbits about this historic site.
