A catered buffet lunch will be served at 12pm followed by mystery theater. The play takes place in an art gallery. Actors will portray the murder mystery and then you’ll participate with those at your table to figure out “Who Done It?”

Diwali, the Festival of LightsAlmaden Senior Association Diwali

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is one of India’s most important and colorful celebrations.

On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the Almaden Senior Association will host their Diwali Celebration from 4 – 7pm at the Almaden Community Center.

Festivities will feature beautiful decorations, a flavorful multi-course Indian dinner, Bollywood dances, and drawings for gift baskets and gift cards.

Ticket sales begin September 27 and are available MWF from 8 – 10am in the Almaden Community Center lobby. Tickets are $22 ACC members and family, $25 non-members. A table can be reserved with a purchase of 8 tickets.

About the Almaden Senior Association

The Almaden Senior Association is an all-volunteer organization of Active Adults (50+) which initiates, supports and promotes programs and activities for the active adult population at the City-operated Almaden Community Center. The Association works in collaboration with City staff responsible for operating the Center. The Association meets monthly on the first Wednesday of each month. Find out more on their website here.

Most activities start in September, so register now!

In addition to fall classes, the Almaden Community Center 2023 Fall Activity Guide has registration information for 2023-2024 school year programs including San Jose Recreation Preschool and R.O.C.K. Afterschool. You can also register for Fall Break Camp, which runs from October 2-6, as well as for Citywide Fitness programs for ages 14-55+, including drop-in volleyball, basketball, and table tennis.

General registration for community center classes, spring break camp and a wide variety of summer camps opens Feb. 25 at 10am. You can register in person at Almaden Community Center or online at www.sjregistration.com.

Dozens of week-long full- and half-day summer camps will take place at the Almaden Community Center or at neighboring parks. Camp instructors are from Mad Science of the Bay, Play-Well TEKnologies, Dance Arts Academy, Young Rembrandts, Futsal Kings, Skyhawks Sports Academy, Engineering for Kids, and more.

Early registration for Active Adults 50+ begins online and in person on Wednesday Feb. 22 at 10am. From creative crafts to pickleball, there’s something for everyone!

Harvest Festival at Almaden Community Center

Harvest Festival at Almaden Community CenterThe Almaden Community Center is hosting its 15th Annual Harvest Festival this weekend, on Saturday, October 15th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is an event that you can enjoy with the entire family, but it’s extra special for kids.

Create beautiful harvest themed arts and crafts items at the arts-n-crafts area, play carnival games, find pumpkins for your fall decor at the pumpkin patch or experience some freaky, scary moments at the haunted hallway.

Drop-In-Sports Back at the Almaden Community Center

Drop in sports at almaden community centerGreat news for the community! Drop-in-sports are back at the Almaden Community Center. You can play Volleyball on Friday nights, and Basketball and Table-Tennis from 9am to 12pm on Saturday mornings.

Volleyball: at the Gym. Hours: Fridays – 6pm to 8pm.
Basketball: at the Gym. Hours: Saturdays – 9am to 12noon.
Table-Tennis: at the Community Room. Hours: Saturdays – 9am to 12noon.

Adults: $5.50 per session (Monthly: $27, Annual: $145)

May is Older Americans Month and the Almaden Community Center is celebrating Almaden’s seniors this week with a special event: the Almaden Community Center Courtyard Carnival. Seniors over 50 are welcome to enjoy activities and games with prizes. Those in need can also access resources for seniors.

Senior SafariSenior Safari at the Happy Hollow Park and Zoo

Happy Hollow Park and Zoo’s Senior Safari is back this year. So if you’d like to get some love from animals, head over to the Happy Hollow Park and Zoo for a little petting time. Seniors 50+ can enjoy free early entry into the park and zoo (before 10:00 am) to meet and greet animals and other activities! The first of six free events is this week, May 26. Additional dates are June 23, July 28, August 25, September 22 and October 27.

Almaden Community Center 2022 Spring The Almaden Community Center 2022 Spring Activity Guide is now available! Registration for community center classes, spring break camp and a wide variety of summer camps begins Feb. 26 at 10am. You can register in person at Almaden Community Center or online at www.sjregistration.com.

Spring break camp for ages 5-12 will be held at the Almaden Community Center Monday-Friday April 11-15 from 8am-6pm.

Registration for Active Adults 50+ begins on Feb. 23 at 10am.

The Almaden Branch Library is now open for all in-person activities after the pandemic restrictions are lifted. Check out the new hours here.

While the Almaden Community Center is still awaiting opening for indoor in-person activities, there are a lot of sports camps and outdoor activities that you can register for. Some of the activities that are still open for July registration are:

Camp Dance:
July 19 to July 23. For kids aged 3 to 12 years. At the Almaden Community Center, Tiny Town Courtyard. This is an outdoor activity, masks are required.

Camp San Jose Strong at Vista Park: Full Day
July 6 to July 9, July 12 to July 16, July 19 to July 23. For kids aged 5 to 12 years. This is a full day camp from 8 am to 6 pm at Vista Park.

Camp San Jose Strong at Almaden: Half Day
July 6 to July 9, July 12 to July 16, July 19 to July 23, August 2 to August 6. For kids aged 3 to 5 years. This is a half day camp at the Almaden Community Center.

Beach Volleyball at Almaden Lake Park:
July 14 to August 4. For kids aged 8 to 12 years. Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:30 pm.
July 26 to July 30. For kids aged 10 to 14 years. 9 am to 12 pm.
These are outdoor activities, masks are required.

Holiday Events at Almaden Community CenterThe holidays are just around the corner, and so are a couple of Almaden’s favorite family holiday events at Almaden Community Center – Breakfast with Santa and the North Pole Party!

Breakfast with Santa
The Breakfast with Santa event at the Almaden Community Center is an annual tradition where families can meet and take photos with Santa, enjoy a hearty holiday breakfast and participate in arts and crafts. It is being held on December 14, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. This event requires registration. Cost: $18.

North Pole Party
The North Pole party at the Almaden Community Center is a special holiday event for little kids (ages 4-6), being held on December 17, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The little tots will find themselves in a winter wonderland with holiday treats, music and art activities. Cost: $25.
