José Luis Orozco, popular bilingual musician, is performing at the Almaden Library! Mr. José Luis Orozco is an award winning children’s book author and bilingual educator. He wrote De Colores, Diez Deditos and Fiestas. More recently, he wrote Rin Rin Rin Do Re Mi. CD’s accompany each of these colorful books to present a collection of latino songs, rhymes, lullabies, and holiday celebrations.
Almaden Branch Library will be hosting a “Meet the Author” event in the program room on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 4pm.
Thriller author Hannah Jayne will lead a workshop for community members interested in learning more about the life of an author. Jayne’s trilogy of novels is known as the “Underworld Detection Agency Chronicles,” and individual titles include Under Wraps, Under Attack, and Under Suspicion.
Pioneer Day offers fun for the whole family. Learn how the Pioneers lived back in the quicksilver mining heyday of the mid nineteenth century.
Festivities include entertainment, history, activities, children’s games, food, and speeches. This year’s Pioneer Day will also celebrate the opening of the new Outdoor Museum at New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum.

The New York Times bestselling author, Michelle Richmond, will be giving a free talk and book signing in Almaden Valley. Michelle’s book, The Year of Fog, will also be available for purchase.

As a part of the Doris Dillon Author Series, author and astronomer, David Aguilar, will be giving a talk about the solar system and space science in Almaden Valley.
David is the author of 13 Planets: The Latest View of the Solar System and other space-themed nonfiction for elementary-school students.
As part of the Doris Dillon Author Series, Almaden Branch Library is hosting Laura Numeroff, the author of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” Laura will be promoting and signing her newest book, “The Jellybeans and the Big Book Bonanza.” Hicklebee’s Bookstore will be onsite to sell Laura Numeroff’s books. This program is sponsored in cooperation with Hicklebee’s Bookstore and Graystone Elementary School. The event will be at the Doris Dillon Children’s Library inside the Almaden Branch Library.
