Almaden Lake Park Hosts Walk for a Cure for GIST
GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors) is a form of cancer that has no cure and affects thousands of Americans every year. The Walk for a Cure was started by a GIST patient in New York 12 years ago. On Sunday, October 21st from 10:30am to 2pm, residents of San Jose will have the opportunity to raise money for research, generate awareness and provide support for GIST patients and their caregivers.
GIST patients and their family and friends will be invited from the state of California and from neighboring states to participate. 100% of the profits raised from the event are donated directly to research institutions. Last year, five grants were given to five different cancer centers around the country: Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, Fox Chase in Philadelphia, University of Pittsburg, Dana Farber in Boston (Harvard), and Oregon Health and Science University.
Lunch will be provided on the day of the walk. Please RSVP for the event by emailing: lchew58@gmail.com. Participants should meet at Winfield Boulevard and Coleman Avenue in Almaden Lake Park.
