AARP Driver Safety Program in Almaden Valley this Fall 2011 – UPDATED 2022
Almaden Senior Program and AARP are sponsoring a one-day Driver Safety Class for seniors age 50 and older. To take this one-day course you must have taken a two-day course within the past 3 years.
Almaden Business Association Presentation and Mixer
Matthew Mahood, President & CEO of San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, will be speaking at the next Almaden Business Association event.
He will be discussing the future direction of the Chamber and specific issues of interest to businesses in the Almaden Valley and Blossom Valley areas.
2011 Run, Turkey, Run in Almaden Valley
Join Almaden Valley’s Run, Turkey, Run on Thanksgiving Day for its annual fun run and shoe drive benefiting Soles4Souls. The race features 5K and 10K courses, with a combined start. Walkers are also welcome!

Almaden Valley Real Estate Market Update – October 18, 2011
The number of active listings in Almaden Valley increased slightly from last week, from 76 to 80 this week. The percentage of listings that are in escrow decreased slightly, from 38% to 35%. Traditional (ie non-distressed) listings experienced a similar change, from 67 to 71 active listings and from 31% in escrow to 30% this week. This could very likely be the early stages of the annual slow-down we see around the holidays.
Interest rates remain fairly much at the same level as last week.
Healthy Tails Dog Hike
Almaden Valley neighbors, leash up your dogs and join the Healthy “Tails” dog hike at Quicksilver Park on Saturday, November 5 from 9am to 11am. A guide from California K9 Solutions will be teaching participants how to enjoy outdoor activities as they and their dogs hike the 2.5 mile Wood Road Trail. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet long, and registration is required. Call (408) 355-2240 or register online at Santa Clara County Parks.

Martin-Fontana Park Association Phase II Tree Planting in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022
Martin-Fontana Parks Association (MFPA) will be planting a number of California native plants and shrubs in Jeffrey Fontana Park.
Volunteers are needed. They will be meeting near the children’s playground not far from the intersection of McAbee Road & Thorntree Drive. Here is a map for the location.
Dave Poeschel will be heading up the project that involves the planting of 20 trees and about 130 small shrubs in Fontana Park on both sides of McAbee.
The other project will be headed by Patrick Pizzo in an area known as Island A, just west of the dog park in Fontana. He will lead the planting of about 25 shrubs.
Make sure to bring your gloves and a shovel, if you have one. The work won’t be too hard as the holes will be pre-augered. MFPA will be providing coffee, water, and refreshments for all the volunteers.

Almaden Valley Real Estate Market Update – October 10, 2011
The number of single family properties in Almaden Valley that are on the market crept up slightly, from 74 last Monday to 76 today. However, the number of pending escrows also increased, from 37% last week to 38% this week. Traditional (ie non-distressed) properties experienced similar changes, with the number of properties on the market increasing from 66 to 67 and the percentage of pending escrows increasing from 31% to 32%. Although the number of active listings increased, the percentage of pending escrows has pretty much recovered from the dip we saw last week.
Interest rates are remaining stable, though some banks posted a slight increase. Even so, rates are so low that buyers who are contemplating purchasing are being lured into acting by the historically low interest.
