Make a Mural for Display at the 23rd Annual San Jose Children’s Faire – UPDATED 2022

Participate in the Almaden Library mural making craft. Kids and parents will be decorating a mural with the theme, “Play Together, Learn Together: Growing with Giggles & Grins!”

The mural will be on display at the 23rd Annual San Jose Children’s Faire celebration at Discovery Meadow Park (located in front of the Children’s Discovery Museum). The Children’s Faire is Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 10:30am–3:00pm. (See photos from the 2010 faire.)

Displaying children’s art provides insight into the imagination and development of young children. These Children’s Art Displays are a means of helping the public understand the value of childhood creativity.

The mural making craft is at the Almaden Branch Library on Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 10:45-11:45am. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

Meet Smokey the Bear and Learn About Fire Safety in Almaden Valley UPDATED 2022

This special event features stories, songs, and essential information about fire prevention and fire safety. And an opportunity for the kids to meet Smokey the Bear! This will be a fun and educational event for kids of all ages.

Almaden Fire SafetyThe Santa Clara County FireSafe Council is a non-profit organization composed of individuals, public and private agencies, and private sector businesses that share a common interest in preventing and reducing losses from wildfires.

Operation Prom Dress 2011 in Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

Help prevent the tough economy from discouraging students to attend their Proms. The City of San Jose, in partnership with the Office of Councilmember Madison Nguyen, present Operation Prom Dress 2011.

Donate a new or gently used dress at the donation box inside Almaden Library through April 4, 2011. This is the third year in a row that Ms. Nguyen has led the effort to collect prom dresses for junior and senior girls to wear to their high school proms. In 2010 the drive collected more than 800 dresses.

In past years local dry cleaners, make up artists, and hair stylists have sponsored their services to some of the girls. If you would like to donate your services this year, whether for one girl or several, please contact Lan Thao Nguyen, Council Assistant to Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen, at 408-535-4959. Canines of the County Talk Coming to Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

If you’re a canine enthusiast, then this talk is for you. Learn about Santa Clara County’s wild canines, such as coyotes and foxes, in Canines of the County. See photos of canines in the wild and learn about their behavior.

This talk is presented by the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority. The Open Space Authority protects sensitive lands, preserves natural communities, and manages open space in ways that promote agriculture and compatible recreation.

Canines of the County is at the Almaden Library, in the Program Room, on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The event is free. No registration required. Just show up and enjoy. Fun for all ages. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

Papa Hugs Musical Performance Coming to Almaden Valley – UPDATED 2022

Papa Hugs, a.k.a. David Sharpe, will be accompanied by his Playtime Characters, including Wonder The Kangaroo, Scary Bug, Robbie the Robot, Fitness the Frog, and Stinky Beetle.

Papa Hugs’ music is educational, interactive, upbeat, silly, and fun. It teaches children about relationships, health, our environment, and the world around us. Papa Hugs songs are straight from the heart and welcome you with open arms.

Join the San Jose Astronomical Association for Stories Under the Stars and Star Party.

From the stargazing station telescopes, see Jupiter, Ring Nebula, Great Global Cluster in Hercules, Coathanger, Albireo, and other show objects of the autumn sky.

Join Teri Rogoway, Open Space Interpreter, from the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority, for an evening of exploring these mysterious and incredible animals.

Learn what they eat and how they hunt, where and when you may spot one, and what to do if you encounter one while hiking.
