This spectacular home was once occupied by the managers of the New Almaden mine and its Victorian heritage has been maintained by the staff.
The New Almaden Quicksilver Mines and Museum will be the subject of the next presentation at the Milpitas Historical Society meeting.
Doug Bergtholdt will speak on the New Almaden Quicksilver Mine and its background, geology, and the fascinating social history of the town of New Almaden, with photos and stories that make the area come alive. A film about the New Almaden Quicksilver Mines will also be shown.

Following is the Summer 2011 Calendar of Outdoor Activities for Almaden Quicksilver County Park and Calero County Park. Both parks are conveniently located here in beautiful Almaden Valley.
The events include everything from history hikes, wildlife hikes, geocaching, moonlight paddles, bat sightings, and mining adventures.
Bring the whole family for a day of fun at Pioneer Day in New Almaden. Enjoy food, games, history, and speeches from officials.
The event will also celebrate the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Casa Granda, an historical landmark built in 1854, and now home to the New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum. The event is free. Lunch and gifts will be available for purchase.
Pioneer Day will be at the Casa Grande in New Almaden on Saturday, November 13, 2010, from 11am to 3pm. The event is being held by the New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association.
