During this 1-hour Mining Museum Tour at Casa Grande:

  • Discover how local cinnabar significantly impacted the California gold rush. Explore how cinnabar was mined and processed into mercury and hear about the lives of the hardworking miners and their families.
  • Witness authentic mining equipment and family artifacts used by the miners in their families.
  • After the museum tour, participants will have 30 minutes to look at the museum exhibits on their own and visit the gift shop.

Limited space! Please only sign up a max of 4-5 people. If you know more people would like to join, please share the sign-up link.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Tour content is best for ages 9+.
  • Please, no food, drinks, or pets in the museum (service animals welcome).
  • If you would like to simply browse exhibits at your leisure, the museum is open to the public Saturdays and Sundays 12pm-4pm.
  • If you are part of a larger group that wants its own tour, has a minimum of 10 and maximum of 35 participants, please consider a Friday Group Tour.

Wildflower Walk at Almaden Quicksilver

Wildflower Walk at Almaden QuicksilverThe Wildflower Walk at Almaden Quicksilver County Park is a special springtime event that highlights the joy of living in the Almaden Valley. Join a knowledgeable Park Interpreter on a gentle 1-mile guided hike through the park’s trails to discover the incredible variety of native wildflowers that bloom at Quicksilver Park — and learn why they matter so much to the local ecosystem.

This family-friendly outing is suitable for ages 7 and up, making it a perfect Saturday morning activity for households of all kinds. The hike is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, starting at the Mockingbird Hill entrance (19535 Mockingbird Hill Lane, San José, CA 95120). No vehicle entrance fee is required.

Looking for free family friendly crafts to do in the Almaden Valley? Look no further than Almaden Quicksilver County Park’s Mining Museum at Casa Grande.

Every month the museum offers a new and exciting crafternoon from 12pm-4pm. Learn about local wildlife, history, and more while making a craft to take home. Free drop-in event, great for all ages.

The next crafternoons will take place this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 30 & 31, 2025.

Pioneer Day 2023 in New Almaden

Pioneer Day 2023It’s time for Pioneer Day 2023 presented by the New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association! Come learn about New Almaden Quicksilver mining history, including hearing from descendants of miners who lived and worked in New Almaden. Tour the mining museum and grounds of the historic Casa Grande (former home of the mine superintendents). Enjoy live music, lunch, and a tour of historic Hacienda cemetery.

Casa Grande Yuletide Bazaar in New Almaden – UPDATED 2022

Casa Grande in New AlmadenCasa Grande at the New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum will be offering a Yuletide Bazaar on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 10am to 4pm. Local artists and artisans will be selling their crafts and goodies – it’s a great place to pick up some unique holiday gifts for family and friends.

New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum Hosts Living History Day

The New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum will be presenting a special event on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 11am to 3pm. “Living History Day” will take place at the Casa Grande in Almaden Quicksilver Park.

This spectacular home was once occupied by the managers of the New Almaden mine and its Victorian heritage has been maintained by the staff.
