Mary Gray-Reeves, Bishop of the Diocese of El Camino Real, will be installing Reverend Kate Flexer as the new Rector of the Episcopal Church in Almaden. Kate will become the sixth rector in the church’s 42-year history.
Kate was selected by the church’s Vestry and approved by the Bishop in October 2010 after a nationwide search that produced numerous excellent candidates.
Kate attended seminary at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley. She was ordained in 2000, and served churches in San Francisco and Berkeley before being called to St. Michael’s Church in New York, where she served as Associate Rector for Christian Formation.
Kate’s ministry there included the Sunday school, youth ministry, preparation for baptism and confirmation, young adult ministry and adult forums. Kate also helped develop an innovative alternative worship service at St. Michael’s.
Kate’s husband, Jim Hinch, is a professional journalist, and they have two young children. Kate grew up in the Seattle area and received a BA in Politics from Whitman College.
The installation service is at the Episcopal Church in Almaden on Thursday, January 27 at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary (map). A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
The parish welcomes visitors to attend Thursday’s installation service and to join them anytime for either of their Sunday morning services, a spoken Eucharist at 7:30am and Choral Eucharist at 11:00am.
